I can build you a handsome, hard-working bamboo fly rod.
Or teach you to make your own (and many more after it).
I am the leading instructor in the field; I’ve taught more than a hundred people how to build a bamboo fly rod (some of them went on to become famous builders in their own right).
My classes feature hands-on, comprehensive, individual instruction. The course is custom tailored to each individual student as you are guided through every step of crafting a bamboo fly rod.
We start with a culm of bamboo, and we end up with a blank (some get farther).
Along the way, you learn what it’s taken me years to figure out - the little tricks and traps of bamboo rod building. You can even build a rod based on one of my own tapers, or choose a classic taper of your preference.
When completed, you will have a hand crafted bamboo rod blank with all professional components, rod sack and tube, along with the knowledge to build many more.

Fees
$1350 per person one-on-one instruction
$1100 per person in classes of two
Course fee includes all materials (plus extra bamboo to take home for your next rod).
